Walking Together: Listening for God’s Future in Burnie

Recently, members of Burnie Baptist Church and Coastlands Baptist gathered for a significant review day. The purpose was not to make decisions about the future, but to create space — space for stories to be shared, experiences to be heard, and for people to reflect together on God’s faithfulness.

As people looked back over the story of both churches, one thing became clear: God has been at work in Burnie for a long time. Through generations of faithful people, community involvement, children’s ministries, hospitality, prayer, church planting, and countless acts of service, God has continued to build His church. Many of the things we celebrate today have grown from the quiet faithfulness of people who have simply sought to follow Jesus and love their community well.

The day also created a safe space to speak about the joys, challenges, difficulties and hopes that come with any season of change. As people listened to one another, they discovered how much they share — a love for Jesus, a heart for people, and a desire to see God’s Kingdom continue to grow in Burnie.

Together, they were guided to explore what God may be inviting them into next. This includes conversations around unity, shared leadership, renewed mission, and what a stronger Baptist witness in the city might look like. One participant captured the feeling of the day simply: “We’re not alone.”Many left encouraged by the sense that God has been preparing the way, and that this conversation was an important step in listening together for His guidance.

Please pray for Burnie Baptist and Coastlands Baptist as they continue this journey. Pray for wisdom, humility, courage and a deep trust in the God who has faithfully led them through the past and continues to guide His people into the future.
