1. PROXIMITY Muster, Tue-Wed, 26-27th July 🙏
Please pray for Michael Henderson and Jenna Blackwell, our Leadership and Development team, as they prepare for the Pastors Muster coming up in Burnie.

2. CHRISTMAS IN WINTER, TODAY 3rd July 🌟
Please pray for those at Hobart as they celebrate a special wintry Christmas Day service today. Please pray that the alternate time of year will get people thinking about the real meaning of Christmas and gain community traction as years go on.

3. End of Term 2 / School holidays, From next Friday, 8th July 💖
Our children and youth will soon begin the winter break, and it is a good time to remember them (and their teachers) in prayer. They are the future of our state at so many levels, and they need our love, support and especially prayer.

Next Saturday, the Tasmanian Baptist Council will meet in Longford. Please be in prayer for them as they travel, but also as they meet, often for very robust conversations. Give thanks for their work, which means our Assemblies are usually very straightforward from a governance perspective.

* Pastoral Vacancies, Burnie and Wynyard
Please continue to uphold Burnie and Wynyard churches as they seek to call pastoral staff. This is a journey with both highs and lows, which can be challenging for leadership and congregations to navigate. Please pray God will make it very clear who they are to call, and when.

Urgent Foster Care Prayer, From Mary Dickins, Fostering Hope
Please pray for Pat*, a teenage foster child in southern Tas, who urgently needs a new foster family. Pat's current living situation is difficult, and transfer to a yet-to-be-identified family is necessary. Give thanks that Pat already has good wider support, including weekend care.

World Refugee Day, Monday 20th June
Tomorrow the globe comes together to build empathy and raise awareness of refugees. Please pray for ex-refugees in Tasmania, many of whom are Baptists. They manage issues like learning a new language and culture, missing loved ones and grief over losing their homes.

Shelter Retreat
5pm - 5pm, 24/25th June
Please be in prayer for the southern EmpowHer retreat taking place for 24 hours next weekend. Pray that the women who attend will draw close to God during that time, and that they can find a place of true rest with Him.

Some encouragement from Mission Director Stephen Baxter:

It is right to lament and work for solutions to the challenges we face, but there is more to this moment than that. Although our natural reaction is a “fight or flight” response, there is another way – we can take courage.
.
In this dark moment we can trust in God’s goodness. We can be assured of God’s love, presence and good purposes. And we can be alert to all God has to show us: things new and profound, things we have never seen before, things we could never see in the light.
.
So my encouragement is for us to pray, and keep on praying, “Father, help us to see what you are doing that we may be like Jesus and do nothing by ourselves, but mimic your work in our world, to the glory of your name.”

* Pray for Hobart, Dark MoFo, 8-22 June
Hobart's winter festival has begun and Hobart city is swathed in red light. The theme this year is "Resurrection" - a most powerful word for Christians! Please pray that as people come from around the nation to participate in pagan events that their thirst for spiritual answers will lead them to Jesus.

* Luminous Festival, 9th June to 3rd July, Hobart Baptist Church
At 6pm next Wednesday night, 15th June, an important panel discussion will take place at Hobart Baptist. "Receiving Welcome" is a free event which includes a light meal. Michael Henderson, Kate Warner and Prof. Tim McCormack will discuss a non-indigenous pathway to reconciliation. Info/Register: https://hobartbaptist.com/luminous

Please pray for Andrew Turner, Director of Crossover, as he conducts a review of Tas Baptists' leaders in coming weeks. Pray for him as he gathers and compiles information; and that it will serve to strengthen our movement into the future.

In this week's ReCharge Mission Director Stephen Baxter wrote:
It was a dark moonless night in early Spring. I was about 12 years old, and we were holidaying at my grandfather’s farm. A highlight of any stay was staying up late to go spotlighting. On this particular night, just after turning into our first paddock, we got bogged. The ute was up to its axles in mud, and it was going nowhere.
.
It was in the outback, a long way from anywhere with no moon and no lights. The stars shone like diamonds. It was a magical moment as we followed satellites and shooting stars and talked of planets, suns, galaxies and God. The display of beauty and power filled my heart with wonder and awe.
.
Recently, I’ve reflected on how that moment illustrates a profound insight. There are some things about God, and the beauty of creation, which can only be appreciated in the dark.
.
This realisation is somewhat counter-intuitive, because we normally associate God with light, and for good reason. The Bible is full of metaphors about God being light, and the opposite of darkness. However, it also speaks of God creating darkness, and darkness being as light to God (Ps 139:12)
.
Some things, it seems, can only be learned through dark times. Suffering and loss, grief and betrayal are the fertile soil where deep lessons to do with wisdom and compassion germinate and grow.
