New Testament Translation, Last Hurdles!

There is a growing excitement around the New Testament translation project as the Tasmanian Baptist team and the translation team continue to build a deep partnership together.

The practical preparations are now well underway, with the MOU finalised after being carefully reviewed by a number of experienced people, including Baptist Mission Australia. More importantly, the translation team has taken time to work through the agreement together so that everyone understands the partnership and is confident about the way forward. Our recent Zoom meeting was a particularly encouraging time. There was plenty to talk through, but also a wonderful sense of anticipation as we began to imagine what it will mean for this community to have the New Testament in their own mother tongue.

It is easy to focus on the mechanics of a translation project, but behind all the planning are real people who will one day be able to encounter the story of Jesus through God’s Word in the language that speaks most deeply to them. The translation team now has the final documents to consider and sign, along with the applications, bank details and other elements needed to begin the partnership. Western Union will be our initial pathway for transferring funds.

Perhaps one of the most encouraging aspects so far has been the relationship that is developing between the Tasmanian Baptist team and the translation team. There is a lovely warmth and sense of partnership emerging, and we look forward to seeing that relationship grow over the years ahead.
