A Future Filled with Potential! Steve Fitzallen begins at Summerhill Baptist
Aug 31, 2026
There is a sense of fresh possibility at Summerhill Baptist Church as Steve Fitzallen begins as their new interim pastor. Steve commenced on 18 August and was formally inducted on Sunday 23 August, bringing a wealth of ministry experience, energy and enthusiasm to the role.
Based in Launceston’s western suburbs, Summerhill is a diverse and welcoming church with a strong community and family focus. Their ministries extend well beyond Sunday gatherings, including small groups, playgroup, youth ministry, Chat and Choose and a community basketball club.
Earlier this year, Summerhill undertook a church review, providing a clear set of goals and recommendations to help shape the church’s future. Steve is excited about what lies ahead:
“The potential is huge. I see the recommendations in the review report and am excited to work with the church to see these realised.”
Steve is an ordained minister with a deep passion for seeing lives transformed and communities discipled in the way of Jesus. Known for his love of God and people, he brings an evangelistic heart alongside a strong commitment to the local church. As a visionary leader and lifelong learner, Steve is particularly passionate about seeing churches grow in health and maturity across every area of their life and ministry.

He says he never tires of seeing people gather on a Sunday to worship, connect and grow in their faith. That passion, together with his experience and enthusiasm, will be a valuable addition to the Summerhill community as they look towards the future.
Steve has been married to Karen for 28 years, and together they enjoy great food, travel, time with their two adult children and catching up with close friends. A keen runner and devoted sports enthusiast, Steve brings plenty of energy, passion and authenticity to both life and ministry.
We look forward to seeing how God uses Steve’s gifts alongside the people of Summerhill as they build on their strengths, embrace new opportunities and continue pointing people towards Jesus and the life and love He offers.
