A few of Claremont’s Local Mission Initiatives

At Claremont Baptist Church, mission often begins with something as simple as sharing a meal or creating a welcoming space for neighbours to gather. 

Book Nook provides a warm, welcoming space where church members and neighbours connect over conversation, friendship and hospitality, creating many opportunities to share life and faith naturally. T2Women brings women of all generations together each month for encouragement, friendship and learning from one another, reflecting the wisdom and community encouraged in Titus 2.

The church’s regular Men’s Breakfast has become an important part of that rhythm. Bringing together church members, friends, and family, it creates opportunities for good food, honest conversations, and a short devotional that encourages people to explore life’s bigger questions in a relaxed and welcoming environment. 

Last year, Claremont also hosted its first Light in the Darkness Festival as a positive alternative to Halloween. While the children enjoyed toasted marshmallows and activities, parents lingered around the firepit, giving church members the opportunity to build genuine relationships with local families. One parent captured the heart of the evening perfectly: “It’s so great to see this church being part of our community.”

Another initiative has become a quiet but consistent witness. What began as a life-sized Christmas nativity display has grown into the Caught on a Corner Window—a street-facing display that changes every six weeks with Bible verses, seasonal themes, community events, and church activities. Regularly noticed by pedestrians and local dog walkers, it has become a simple reminder that the church is present, engaged, and looking beyond its own walls. As one passer-by commented, “Your church looks alive.”

These initiatives remind us that mission is often found in ordinary acts of hospitality and presence. As churches become known for serving their communities with generosity and openness, they create spaces where conversations begin, relationships grow, and people have the opportunity to encounter the love of Jesus.
